The Toast for the 50th Anniversary of the MACP, proposed by Agneta Lando

25th Oct 2018

THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE MACP

Thank you, Nicola, and the Executive Committee for inviting me to propose the toast on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the MACP, it is an honour.

I have in my hand a copy of the first MACP Constitution. It is so small that some of you at the back of the room probably can't see it. It was given to me by Sue Adams, who sadly can't be here, but for those of you who refreshed your memory of the present constitution, prior to the AGM, as you do, it demonstrates one of the ways the MACP has grown over the last 50 years.

With any anniversary, it is customary to celebrate the past and the future and this occasion is no different.

So, let us go back and remind ourselves of whence we came... click here to read the statement in full

Management of Atraumatic Shoulder Instability in Physiotherapy (MASIP) Study

15th Aug 2018

Dear members,

Please support this study:

Management of Atraumatic Shoulder Instability in Physiotherapy (MASIP) Study

It takes about 10 mins to complete, and at the end you can download your responses and use them as CPD evidence. The CPD evidence can be used to show involvement in research, but also having a copy of the questions and answers can provide a good opportunity for reflection and discussion - particularly if a small group work together to compare answers after completing it. The survey is being done in collaboration with Anju Jaggi's Shoulder Unit Team at Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore, and hopefully we'll be able to share/publish the results.

To extend the reach as far as possible and capture people with a range of experience please help in sharing the survey to your clinical contacts, whether it's current/past colleagues, or even people you have trained with, to help get the message out there.

Thank you for this, really appreciate your help with getting the message out. The link to the survey is: www.shouldersurvey.com

PHYSIO UK 2018 Conference

14th Feb 2018

This year the MACP celebrates its 50th anniversary. In partnership with the CSP we will be convening a dedicated musculoskeletal stream at Physio UK 2018, 19th - 20th October 2018.

In the run up to the conference we will be letting members know how they can contribute to the conference and provide information regarding key note speakers, developing conference programme. We will also be letting members know how they can become involved in delivering a high quality MSK stream.

How can MACP members become involved?

Conference Programme
The MACP conference team would be interested in hearing your thoughts on who you would like to speak at Physio UK 2018. We will be looking for suggestions on the MACP Twitter and Facebook pages under the working title for the MSK stream "Progress and Innovation in MSK"

Abstract Review Committee.
We previously let you know about the opportunity to apply to be a part of the abstract review committee.
There is still an opportunity to be part of the abstract review process as the application deadline does not close until the 23rd March 2018.

Why to volunteer as a reviewer:
- The results of the review process will help organisers make informed decisions about Physiotherapy UK content and the MSK stream
- Peer review helps to ensure credible work is selected for presentation and improves the quality of the conference.
- Good CPD opportunity
- Find out what others are doing in your field and contribute to the scientific community

Abstract Submission
The call for abstract submission opens on the 14th Feb and we would like to encourage all members to submit their abstracts for consideration for Physio UK 2018 to showcase the work of MACP members to the wider physiotherapy community.
Dr Nicola R Heneghan, Chair of the MACP, gives 10 top tips for first time abstract submissions.

1. Start discussing your ideas NOW for an abstract (abstract submissions start 14th February)
2. Check the requirements (word count, structure/subheadings, conference theme/strand theme)
3. Review previously submitted and accepted abstracts which have used similar designs/methods as you for ideas. The best abstracts will likely have been accepted as oral presentations
4. Find a critical friend and use them over and over again to refine your abstract; it takes time to develop a great abstract
5. Background: what is the problem/context to the project, why is this project needed
a. 2/3 sentences maximum stating the problem/context
b. Include data to support if possible
6. Purpose: what were the aims/objectives of the project
7. Design/Methods: provide key information on design, and methods, including sample, setting, inclusion/exclusion criteria, piloting, validity/reliability of tools used, data analysis etc. refer to guidelines for 'quality' where appropriate e.g. CONSORT, ethics
8. Results: provide demographic detail, including sample characteristics. Include main results/findings which are clear to the reader.
9. Conclusion: briefly, but clearly state what you found in your study
10. Implications: what are the practice/clinical/research implications of your findings
