NICE Guideline Scope - Consultation
15th Nov 2013
NICE Guideline Scope - Consultation.......... "Last chance for MACP members to comment on the draft scope for clinical guidelines on low back pain from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).
The final clinical guidelines will 'improve targeting of treatment and potentially improve quality of life of people suffering from low back pain and radicular pain', according to NICE.
The scope suggests that all settings in which NHS care is provided will be covered by the updated guidelines. Among the key issues the scope will cover are lifestyle interventions, such as self-management strategies and group programmes. Others include analgesics, muscle relaxants, anticonvulsants and other pharmacological treatments.
The consultation on the draft scope is open until 18 November. CSP professional adviser Ralph Hammond said 'Think about what interventions have been included or excluded and whether these are right. Are there other interventions that should be included, and any other clinical questions NICE needs to consider?'
If you have an comments regarding the scope of the next NICE LBP guidelines please send them (By the 17th THIS SUNDAY ) to the MACP Professional Network officer firstname.lastname@example.org who will forward them to Chris Mercer FMACP. Chris is representing the MACP in the consultation and guideline development process.
The draft scope document can be found here http://guidance.nice.org.uk/CG/Wave0/681/ScopeConsultation
PPA Draft Competencies
11th Nov 2013
Dear MACP member..................
PPA Draft Competencies - Member Consultation....
The Physiotherapy Pain Association (PPA) have been working in partnership with the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) to develop a framework to describe the levels of skill an expertise amongst physiotherapists working with those experiencing pain. The first draft of this document is currently out for consultation with members of both organisations and we hope to use the feedback from this consultation to shape the next phase of revisions.
We have started the consultation process early as we wish to use the member views to steer and shape the document before the project direction becomes too fixed. We are really grateful for your time in responding to this consultation process.
The Working Group
Dr Heather Cameron
