CSP Recommendations for Outcome Measures

CSP Recommendations for Outcome Measures.................
The CSP have been told by the DoH that robust outcome measures will be essential for clinical services bidding for contracts under the new "any qualified provider" strategy. As further details emerge, the CSP has recognised the importance of supporting its members in being able to select the most useful outcome measures in order to present strong business cases to commissioners.
To facilitate all MSK services collecting similar data, the CSP will soon be issuing recommendations regarding outcome measures to members. These recommendations are likely to include the use of EQ-5D-5L as a routine outcome measure for MSK patients. The CSP has an agreement with Euroqol which gives all CSP members the free use of the EQ-5D-5L in MSK clinics for the next three years. In addition to the EQ-5D-5L, the recommendations will probably also include the use of specific clinical outcome measures for different body sites.

MACP to become the "Musculoskeletal Association of Chartered

MACP to become the "Musculoskeletal Association of Chartered Physiotherapists"..................
Members of the Manipulation Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (MACP) will be aware that there have been extensive consultations over the past year and a half regarding changing the group's name to better reflect contemporary practice in their field. The membership voted strongly for changing the name to the Musculoskeletal Association of Chartered Physiotherapists and this has recently been passed by the CSP.
Changing the name will result in some necessary constitutional changes so the official launch of the name change will take place at the MACP AGM taking place at CSP Congress later this year.
At the end of 2010 clinical interest groups were re-branded as professional networks and the networks are split into six Alliances. The MACP are in the group that was originally called the Musculoskeletal Alliance. Following initial meetings involving the groups involved in this Alliance it is to be re-named the Neuromusculoskeletal Alliance.
Our own name change will help to keep us at the centre of musculoskeletal physiotherapy and the Executive Committee feel this is a very positive step for the future of the MACP.
